COBA welcomes Budget confirmation of kids’ tax relief

COBA welcomes Budget commitment to children’s TV

The Commercial Broadcasters Association (COBA) today welcomed the Government’s confirmation in the Budget that it will introduce tax relief for UK children’s programmes as of next month.

COBA members are already commissioning high quality UK children’s and animation content, including Disney’s large-scale children’s live-action drama Evermoor, Nick Jr’s acclaimed animation Lily’s Driftwood Bay and Turner’s Bafta-winning The Amazing World of Gumball. Building on the introduction of tax reliefs for high-end television and animation, we believe this latest UK tax incentive will help sustain the commercial broadcasting sector’s investment in culturally-British children’s television production.

Adam Minns, Executive Director of COBA, said: “COBA members are amongst the leading commissioners and producers of high-end television and animation content on a global basis. A properly constructed UK tax credit will help incentivize future investment in UK children’s content. Alongside HM Treasury, we would also like to recognize the efforts that the DCMS has gone to to help ensure this happens.”
